Since 1893 the Porter Memorial Library Association has striven to provide the people of Machias and its surrounding communities with the best services a small town library can provide. While the town of Machias provides an annual grant to cover a portion of the Library’s operating costs, the remainder is raised through our fundraisers, and through the generosity of our Library Friends.
Contributions to the Annual Appeal are accepted at any time during the year to help fund our collections, programs, and services, as well as the general operation of the Library. Every gift, regardless of size, is welcomed and needed!

Book donations
Book donations are used to fill gaps in our collection or sold to raise funds to support library programs. If you would like to donate books, please drop them off at the library during normal hours. Books in good condition ONLY please! We do not accept old magazines, phone books, maps, textbooks, encyclopedia sets, or printed materials other than books. We DO accept old CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, books on tape, and media for our annual sale.
