Join the AI Conversation at Porter Memorial Library

How do you use Artificial Intelligence (AI)? Who does AI benefit? Is it safe? On Wednesday, September 30 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Porter Memorial Library in Machias will host a Community Conversation About AI. The meeting is free and open to the public. Caitlin Martin, a social science researcher from Chicago, will facilitate the discussion.

The Maine State Library (MSL) has received $750,000 from the FY27 State Supplemental Budget to create an AI literacy and safety campaign for Mainers. The initiative is rooted in the idea that an AI-literate person understands what AI means, identifies real-world AI applications and social implications, and uses AI tools thoughtfully and ethically. MSL is asking Maine's 256 libraries to assist with spreading the word about AI literacy and safety. For the list of Maine libraries who will host AI Conversations, visit the MSL webpage at https://www.maine.gov/msl/ai.
